President Hakainde Hichilema has been re-elected for a second term as President of the Republic of Zambia following a hard-fought 2026 General Election.

Following his victory, President Hichilema thanked Zambians for renewing their trust in his leadership and pledged to devote his second term to accelerating national development and improving the lives of citizens across the country.

In his victory message, President Hichilema described the election as a demonstration of Zambia’s commitment to peace, democracy and the rule of law, noting that the country had once again settled its political differences through the ballot box.

“Thank you, Zambia! We are truly humbled by the trust you have placed in our hands, to hold our nation’s highest office and to be your servant, once more,” President Hichilema said.

The President reflected on his campaign, during which he and his team travelled across all 116 districts, visiting cities, compounds, villages and farming communities.

He said the nationwide campaign provided an opportunity to see first-hand the challenges facing Zambians and reinforced his commitment to working with citizens to address them.

President Hichilema also extended his message to citizens who voted for opposition parties, assuring them that his administration would continue working to ensure that every Zambian benefits from the country’s development.

“To those citizens who preferred the ideas presented by our opponents, we hear you, and we will continue to work for you,” he said.

The President further highlighted children he encountered during the campaign, saying their experiences had strengthened his resolve to build a better Zambia for future generations.

As he begins his second term, President Hichilema said the government would place renewed emphasis on development and progress, driven by unity, cooperation and a shared national purpose.

“Now we must work harder than ever before to deliver meaningful development for every single Zambian, in every corner of our country,” he said.

President Hichilema concluded by calling for continued national unity and reaffirming his commitment to peace and prosperity.

“After a hard-fought campaign, the people have spoken and we now turn our focus to building even greater peace and prosperity, and we remain One Zambia, One Nation, One people.”

The re-election gives President Hichilema another five-year mandate to implement his development agenda and lead the country into the next phase of his administration.
