A shocking incident has rocked Lusaka after a 40-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her 22-year-old husband to death following a heated domestic dispute.
According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred at the busy Soweto Market, leaving traders and members of the public in disbelief.
The suspect, identified as Mary Zulu, is accused of attacking her husband, Gerald Mwanga, after accusing him of infidelity.
What Happened?
Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed that the matter was reported at Soweto Police Post around 19:37 hours on March 30.
However, the incident itself is said to have occurred earlier on March 28 at approximately 16:00 hours.
Reports indicate that during the altercation, Mwanga sustained a deep stab wound to his back.
Public Intervention and Hospital Transfer
Concerned members of the public quickly intervened and managed to apprehend the suspect. Mwanga was initially rushed to Kanyama Level One Hospital for medical attention.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the University Teaching Hospitals (UTH), where he sadly passed away while receiving treatment at around 19:30 hours on March 30.
Charges Escalated
Initially, Mary Zulu was detained for unlawful wounding. However, following Mwanga’s death, the case has now been escalated to a more serious charge.
Police have since taken her into custody as investigations continue.
