Vice President Mutale Nalumango Safe After Aircraft Incident During Take-Off in Nakonde

Vice President Dr. Mutale Nalumango is safe after the aircraft she was travelling in was involved in an incident during take-off in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The development was confirmed by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa in a statement issued to the media.

According to Kangwa, the incident occurred while the Vice President was on an official visit to the region. He assured the nation that Dr. Nalumango, along with all passengers and crew members on board, escaped unharmed.

“As a precaution, the Vice President was taken to a nearby medical facility for a routine medical assessment and has since been discharged. She is in good health,” the statement said.

The Government commended the professionalism of the flight crew and emergency responders, whose swift actions ensured the safety of everyone on board. Appreciation was also extended to the people of Nakonde for their prompt assistance following the incident.

Kangwa added that the relevant authorities will investigate the circumstances surrounding the aircraft incident through the established procedures.

Despite the scare, the Vice President is expected to continue with her official programme as planned.
