Lusaka Lawyer, Sister and Brother-in-Law Die in Triple Shooting After Domestic Violence Report

A domestic dispute that had already been reported to police has ended in tragedy after a lawyer, his sister and her husband were all found dead following a shooting incident in Makeni Villa, Lusaka.

According to a police report from Kanyama Police Station, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 8, 2026, at around 3:00 PM. Police received the report at approximately 3:43 PM from a concerned resident who alerted authorities about gunshots in the neighbourhood.

The victims have been identified as 43-year-old Theresa Nyambe, her younger brother Innocent Nyambe, 39, a lawyer working for the Investigator General’s Office, and Theresa’s husband, 45-year-old Clifford Chileshe.

Police revealed that Theresa had reported an alleged assault by her husband just two days earlier, on July 6, at Kanyama Police Station. She reportedly sustained a cut to her upper lip, swollen eyes, a bleeding nose and general body pains. A docket was opened and she was issued with a medical report.

On the day of the shooting, Theresa returned to the Victim Support Unit, where she was issued with a police call-out notice requiring her husband to present himself before officers. She was accompanied by her brother, Innocent Nyambe, who escorted her as they went to serve the notice.

Shortly afterwards, police were alerted to a shooting at the couple’s residence in Makeni Villa.

Upon arrival, officers found Theresa’s body outside the house near the main entrance. After forcing entry into the locked home, police discovered two more bodies inside. Investigators observed multiple gunshot wounds on all three victims.

The Scene of Crime team recovered eight spent cartridges, two pistols and live ammunition from the scene. The firearms and two motor vehicles found at the residence have been taken into police custody as investigations continue.

The bodies of Theresa Nyambe, Innocent Nyambe and Clifford Chileshe were transported to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.

Police have since opened an inquiry file to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
