King Dandy Passes Away at 47

Zambia’s music scene has been hit with heartbreaking news following the passing of legendary artist Wesley Chibambo, famously known as King Dandy or Dandy Krazy. The beloved entertainer died in the early hours of today after succumbing to injuries from a tragic road traffic accident that happened on New Year’s Eve.

King Dandy was on his way from Lusaka to Kitwe for a scheduled performance when disaster struck near Kapiri. The accident also claimed the life of his backup vocalist and upcoming artist Christopher Muyembe, popularly known as Chris Jews, who died at the scene.

Following the crash, King Dandy was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, where doctors performed emergency brain surgery and worked tirelessly to save his life. Despite all medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 01:42 AM on January 2, 2025.

King Dandy leaves behind a powerful legacy in Zambian music. Known for his energetic performances, witty personality, and relatable storytelling, he became a household name whose music reflected the everyday life, struggles, and joy of ordinary Zambians. His influence stretched far beyond entertainment—he was a cultural voice and a true crowd favorite.
