The long wait is over as the list of newly recruited health workers has finally been released. After a brief delay, the names were officially published on Sunday, 13 April 2026, appearing in the Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail, as confirmed by the Ministry of Information and Media.

The recruitment covers a total of 3,205 health workers selected from the 2023 database. According to the Civil Service Commission, the successful candidates include 240 medical doctors, 997 nurses, 194 registered midwifery nurses, 390 clinical officers, and 138 environmental health officers, among other critical health cadres.

Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana earlier explained that the postponement from the original 10 April release was caused by an “unforeseen technical fault” at the two state-owned newspapers. He assured applicants that the delay did not affect the credibility or integrity of the recruitment process, which remained fully intact.

Civil Service Commission Chairperson Dr. Choolwe Beyani has confirmed that the publication of the list marks the conclusion of this recruitment phase. He emphasized government’s commitment to strengthening human resources in the health sector.

The newly recruited workers are expected to be deployed across various parts of the country to help reduce staffing shortages in health facilities.

Authorities have also clarified that this release is separate from the ongoing 2025 recruitment process. Health Minister Alex Katakwe recently told Parliament that an additional 210 medical doctors will be recruited once the current process is completed.

This follows earlier engagements of 277 doctors in 2023 and 450 in 2024 as part of continued efforts to strengthen Zambia’s healthcare system.

Members of the public and applicants are advised to check the full list in the 13 April 2026 editions of the Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail. Government has urged candidates to rely only on official newspaper publications for verification of results.
